FanChoco School Caravan – Solving The Plastic Menace One Wrapper At A Time



To say plastic pollution is one of the biggest threats to environmental sustainability is an understatement. To put it bluntly, the world is engulfed in plastic filth posing grave consequences to both humans and animals alike. The problem is purely human-generated and there is no denying that a collective effort would be required to salvage the situation and bring things under control.

Already the menace of plastic waste has prompted efforts to write a global treaty negotiated by the United Nations. The treaty signed in 2019 is supposed to serve as a wake-up call. But when you take a stroll along our beaches or water bodies, one would soon recognise the severity of the problem we face – and the fact that even without the UN treaty, we have got to do something urgent about the situation.

Corporate organisations have come to recognise that they equally have a duty to the society in which they operate as far as the issue of plastic pollution is concerned. In Ghana, Fan Milk for instance has demonstrated its practical solutions to the waste engulfing our environment.

The company in 2018 commenced an initiative to educate school pupils on proper disposal of plastic waste and practice this through a wrapper collection promo. The idea behind the initiative is to teach these young adults to keep their surroundings clean or proper disposal of plastic waste.

The Wrapper Collection Promo falls under the company’s FanChoco School Caravan project — a nutrition and sanitation program designed to educate children on nutrition and healthy lifestyle as well as the importance of sanitation. This year’s campaign also focused on creating awareness on the adherence to the covid-19 protocols.

As a member of the Ghana Recycling Initiative by Private Enterprises (GRIPE) – an industry-led coalition formed under the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) with a stake in the plastics sector to integrate sustainable waste management solutions, particularly around plastics – Fan Milk Plc understands that keeping the environment safe requires a multi-stakeholder approach.

Considering the fact that a long-lasting solution to the plastic menace requires a behavioral change, involving the pupils at such an early stage would no doubt lead to the desired outcome in the future.

At the event to reward the highest wrapper collecting students and schools, the Ghana Education Service director for Tema Metropolis, Mrs Bernice Ofori, made a profound statement that further underlines the essence of this initiative.

“Vast health disparities exist in our nation and far too many children do not attend school in environments that do not support their health. Unless we address these challenges, the consequences are enormous for children’s learning and for their lifetime health. I would therefore like to commend FanMilk Ghana for introducing the “FanChoco School Caravan campaign in our 104 schools,” she noted.

In her opinion, the fact that the campaign had an all-inclusive approach, engaging both the students and teachers and at some point even the parents demonstrate the commitment Fan Milk has towards nutrition and health.

The wrappers collected are sent for recycling in line with the GRIPE initiative. And according to Kwame Asamoa Mensa-Yawson, the Project Coordinator at GRIPE, the wrapper collection has been very impactful as it falls in line with GRIPE’s main goal which is recovering plastics from the environment.

“I would like to encourage the children to still take up this act of collecting plastics after the event and encourage their peers in schools, communities, and at churches to become improve on their waste practices,” he said.

The FanChoco School Caravan has come to stay, and it will continue in its efforts to educate students, teachers, parents, and the entire public on the importance of sanitation, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle and on Covid-19 protocols.

Let us all become a part of this great initiative by practicing proper waste disposal which will ensure that our environment is kept clean and made safe for generations to come.

New Groundbreaking Video ‘Woman’ Ft. Kidi Out Now



American multi-Grammy nominated singer-songwriter Stokley, has finally dropped his much-anticipated video of ‘Woman’ off his yet to be released album ‘Sankofa’ which featured lynx signee Kidi.

The song which was written and produced (respectively) by Shakespear! (Justin Beiber), S.Dot (MJB, Lauryn Hill, Diddy), and Stokley.  

According to Stokley, “WOMAN” is a love letter to the gender he affectionately refers to as the “greatest producers of life who help shape the world.” 

In a line from the song, he appreciates eulogizes women “I’m a king but I still need my rib/ Need a queen that can keep me grounded/ Don’t need no mirror, mirror on the wall to know there’s no world without a woman”

The accompanying visual, directed by REX, sets the scene with vibrant colours against the beautiful Ghana landscape. Stokley taps into the deep-rooted love and appreciation for the beauty, tenderness, warmth, perseverance, dedication, and dedication strength that all black women exude.

About Stokley 

Stokley’s “Cascade” featuring The Bonfyre holds firm at number 8 on the Billboard and Mediabase R&B Airplay Charts, garnering airplay in New York, LA, Chicago, Detroit, Cincinnati, Atlanta, and more. His “Cascade-LVRS Quarrel Mix” is also receiving love from fans.

Ogilvy Africa Appoints New Chief Strategy Officer



Leading marketing and communications network, Ogilvy Africa has today announced the appointment of Sumanta Ganguly as the new Chief Strategy Officer for the region.

In his new role, Sumanta will be responsible for strengthening the network’s strategy capabilities across its markets, and client portfolio. With this appointment, Ogilvy Africa continues its transformational journey by adding data-led solutions to its offerings. The role reports into the Ogilvy Africa CEO, Vikas Mehta, with a team of analysts, strategists, and strategy directors, based in various locations, covering 39 African countries. The office of the CSO would house the agency’s competencies in data, technology (and tools), including partnerships. The strategy team will operate like a unified think tank across Ogilvy’s disciplines including Advertising, Brand communication, Content, PR & Influence, Social | Digital, Experience, Media and Digital (business) Transformation.

In service of our One-Ogilvy ambition, we are breaking down these siloes to create a unified strategy team that can work through the entire user journey straddling several disciplines. Sumanta joins Ogilvy Africa from Mullen Lowe Lintas Group (IPG), where he spent over six years in various leadership roles. He was instrumental in establishing several practices in Performance marketing, Technology and Omnichannel Strategy as centres of excellence. He believes in “solving for culture and scaling with platforms”.

On his appointment Sumanta said “Africa and African business have been at the forefront of human-first approach to solving for growth; be it fintech or agritech, Africa is a true demonstration of solving for people and scaling with technology. This is an exciting backdrop for any strategist. In a career spanning more than two decades, Sumanta has played multiple roles in technology and strategic planning. Starting with early day internet start-ups, where Sumanta went to work with business plans and securing VC funding; to finally settling in Strategic Planning roles. Besides IPG, Sumanta has worked in the past with organisations such as Ogilvy, Experience Commerce, M&C Saatchi and Cyber Media.

A background in technology coupled with data; Sumanta has worked with clients in multiple categories to develop strategic frameworks that enable businesses to draw insights and measure effectiveness. Notable achievements are his work on retail customer matrix for a grocery retailer in India using the RFM modeling, use of real-time health data to build a disease tracking app in India’s fight against the dreaded Dengue & malarial infections and more recently developing the first of its kind AI based voice bot for India’s top auto company Tata motors, that recently won an award at the APAC Smarties.

She takes over from Abena Tabi, who expertly hosted the show over the past four years.
